If you’re here, your room must be getting a little cluttered these days. It’s 2021, the pandemic is not over, and it’s more important than ever before to keep clean.
It’s time to kick into that spring cleaning session once again. For those who constantly find it difficult to keep their spaces tidy, here are 10 quick tips for you to declutter your room now.
Spring cleaning is definitely a time consuming process. It can be helpful to track your progress with a checklist. Our quick checklist below helps you to figure out where to start cleaning, what to declutter, what to keep and how to organize them.
Take your time to figure out how you want to organize your space, and note down the things you need and the objects you might have been hoarding for a little too long now. The checklist should also make sure that you do not miss out on anything during the spring clean.
With your checklist, make it a point to purchase only things that will help to organize your space. It could be a new laundry basket, a tabletop shelf, a desk organizer or small items such as pencil holders.
Amongst your existing items, decide which you should throw away or donate, and which items you want to keep. Clothes that have been sitting in your closet for over a year should be donated; food items that have gone past their expiry date should be thrown. You will be surprised at how much space will be freed up once you only keep the things you truly need.
It’s easy for dust and grime to accumulate at home. However, you can prevent this by ensuring that you don’t miss out on the spaces that you often forget. These common areas include air conditioners, standing fans, bookshelves, door handles, fridge and the balcony areas.
Fill two pails with warm water, one for cleaning and then another for rinsing your wash cloth. Start by scrubbing the vertical surfaces of your kitchen cabinets. If the grease and oil are stubborn to remove, simply add a little drop of dishwashing soap and baking soda. When you are done cleaning the walls and cabinets, give it a quick wipe down and dry them with a clean rag.
We usually don’t bother as much about our doors, so it might be shocking to learn how much dust will accumulate under the door frames, at the baseboards and behind our doors. Depending on the type of door and its material, there are various methods you can follow to clean your doors. Again, your feather duster comes in handy at this step.
Use the duster to dust off any particles first, then grab a wet cloth and wipe the areas down. You can add some dishwashing soap if the areas are dirtier than expected. Last but not least, pat the areas dry with a clean, dry cloth.
Those areas also happen to be the breeding home for many household pests, so it’s a good idea to spend some time cleaning them. Using a sponge and some all-purpose cleaner, wipe them down gently. For the additional shine on your light fixtures, you can polish them.
Now that you’ve cleaned most of the house, the only area left would be the floors. This should also be the last thing on your cleaning list, since dust and dirt would end up on the floor in the entire spring cleaning process.
For wooden floors, use wax and polish to maintain the shine of natural wood and prevent wear and tear. For homes with tiled flooring, the only way out is to scrub the tiles, focusing especially on the tiny crevices between each tile.
Once you’re done with the floors, open up your windows to allow all the cleaning to dry quickly. Doing so also helps to freshen the air and remove some of that chemical smell.
Last but not least, consistency is key. It’s not easy to be consistent, but the more we procrastinate cleaning, the more daunting and tedious the process will seem. Establishing a regular cleaning routine also helps to reduce some work when you actually do a mass spring cleaning at home.
All in all, we hope this article has been helpful and will motivate you to get started on that long overdue spring cleaning session! It’s time to build healthy cleaning habits that will make your life easier, cleaner and better.
